This position will serve as the Safety and Health Officer for the NEW Minnesota Veterans Home - Montevideo. Under the direction of the Home's Administrator, this position implements, promotes, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the Montevideo Veterans Homes Safety and Health programs.
The position is designated as part-time and primarily day shift.
The work schedule will include at least 40 hours per 2-week pay period
and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. The position is initially eligible for a partial employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.
Minimum Qualifications

*Two years’ experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field which demonstrates at least two of the following:
Developing and auditing safety programs
Navigating workers' compensation programs
Promoting health and wellness programs
Occupational health and safety regulations
*NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of experience.
AND
Successful candidate must also demonstrate:
Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental health regulations (e.g applicable Occupational Safety & Health Agency (OSHA), Minnesota Occupational Safety & Health Agency (MNOSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).
Communication skills sufficient to conduct investigations and present process reports
Ability to implement and present training programs on safety & health issues
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
Experience working in a healthcare or long-term care facility.
Experience conducting inspections, determining compliance and enforcing adherence to OSHA laws and regulations
Knowledge in the operation of security camera systems
Knowledge of State Health Department regulations
Knowledge in emergency preparedness and management
Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of the following:
A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X-Ray is required prior to employment.
