Contract overview

This is a placement contract between you and the employer. If the employer hires a candidate you submit, you'll be paid the contract amount.

The payments begin when the candidate starts and are disbursed over time. The contract terms are:

Market price: $5,900 USDEst.

Duties

  • Develops and directs a range of temporary visual arts exhibitions, permanent collections of Contemporary Art and documentation of projects through publication or videography and outreach programs.
  • Researches, develops, and proposes exhibition topics demonstrating an awareness of feasibility issues (e.g. loans, budget, safety and conservation of objects and publications); executes exhibition plans within strict timelines.
  • Represents the office in meetings, travels domestically internationally to lecture on exhibitions and cultural diplomacy, and participates in professional conventions, and panel discussions with field experts and the general public.
  • Identifies works of contemporary art, negotiates the loans/commissions/sales, and oversees all stages of the process through the actual installation of art and/or production of the publication or video.

Qualifications

Applicants must have ONE of the required basic entry qualification requirements described below:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Have an undergraduate or higher level degree from an accredited college or university museum work; OR in an applicable subject-matter field;
OR
Have 4 years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above;
OR
Have a combination of education and experience where coursework was equivalent to a major, as shown above, PLUS appropriate experience OR additional education.

IN ADDITION to meeting one of the basic entry qualifications requirements listed above, the applicant MUST have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience curating culturally significant, contemporary visual fine art exhibitions at an American Alliance of Museums (AAM) accredited museum or contemporary art gallery representing international artists.
  • Experience managing logistical aspects of art collections, including determining client preferences, identifying artists, developing exhibit budgets, negotiating loan terms, designing installation layouts and installing artwork.
  • Experience fostering relationships with leading contemporary visual artists exhibited in domestic and international museums or galleries to borrow artworks.
