Job Summary
This position is open to qualified Operators and Trainee candidates. As an Electrical Region System Operator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of the electrical grid. You will monitor, control, and manage the flow of electricity through the grid to maintain reliability; responding to emergencies to maintain a safe and reliable system. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Grid Monitoring: Continuously monitor the status of the electrical grid through computer systems, telemetry, and real-time data analysis
- Control Operations: Take necessary actions in response to system alarms, returning the grid to normal operating conditions
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to system disturbances, equipment failures, and emergencies, taking appropriate corrective actions to minimize service disruptions.
- Data Analysis: Analyze historical and real-time data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for system improvement
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with field technicians, company management, and critical customers to coordinate grid activities
- Procedure Adherence: Follow established procedures and protocols for grid operation, including safety guidelines and regulatory compliance
- Equipment Monitoring: Monitor the status of grid equipment, transformers, circuit breakers, and other components, and report any abnormalities for maintenance
- Reporting: Document system events, actions taken, and any issues encountered during shifts for future reference and analysis
- Shift Work: Work in rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 grid monitoring and operation.
Qualifications
Internal candidates bidding priority:
- Qualified Local 57 PD represented Operator
- Internal Local 57 PD represented Journeyman Lineman, Substation Journeymen or Relay Technicians*
- Internal Local 57 PD and Local 57 PS represented Journeyman Electrician, Journeymen Meterman, Journeyman Estimator, I&C Technician or Electronic Technician*
- Electrical Engineer*
External candidates:
- Qualified operator*Veteran with relevant military experience (such as navy nuclear operations, candidates with control room or electronic experience, avionics, military lineman or military electrician). Veteran Recruitment Initiative*

Working Conditions
- Work in a control room environment.
- May be exposed to high-stress situations during grid emergencies.
- Required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
